National Savings & Investments (NS&I) are becoming increasingly popular. This is in no small part to the credit crunch - savers are now more thrifty than ever. So what makes NS&I so unique? NS&I are tax free investments - you will not pay any tax on the interest earned. When you invest your earnings in a bank or building society, although you might not know it, you are paying tax on the interest (usually at 22%). So you are, in a round about way, paying tax on your earnings twice. Nobody likes to hand over more than necessary to the tax man, making NS&I an attractive proposition.
